Auburn University Athletics

SASS

This one is blast from the past - a website I developed in college, working at the Auburn University Athletics Computing Lab.

The job was to operate a student computing lab and to serve as tech support for students and for the department.  But it was also a space for creative projects like running a web server on a subdomain on the university network, and developing and maintaining a custom web application using PHP's object-oriented capabilities, new at that time.

The server was a Dell Pentium II or something, running Fedora Linux, Apache with mod_php, and was one of a very few (if not the only) PHP web application(s) servers on the Auburn University network in the early 2000s.

"CardSwipe" was a time-tracking PHP web application for tallying up football players' study hours, whenever they swiped their student ID.  The study hours data was used to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations.

That was a fun application, and well-liked by the students, because they didn't have to manually keep track of their own time.

It used a simple card-reader with a USB interface like this one.
